So how does one actually get free frequent flyer points? This means receiving points for not doing anything such as spending on credit cards, flying on airlines and promotions. Well if you think about it – the difference between a person that uses cash for all their purchases and doesn’t receive any reward points compared to someone such as myself who uses credit card everywhere possible – pays nothing or minimal annual fee costs – and receives an accelerated points amount is vastly different at the end.
In terms of perception – anyone who receives free frequent flyer points from credit card spending is thought of as receiving something for nothing nearly. Had I not been using my credit card – then flying in first and business class will always be a dream – never attainable unless your are really wealthy. Luckily there is a reward system out there with all the banks, airlines and shops that the average Joe such as myself are able to take advantage of the numerous options for luxury travel.
If you live in Australia – as Qantas is the national carrier – a lot of the spending that we do is attached to the Qantas rewards points either directly or indirectly. The majority of banks have credit cards which allow you to convert the reward points to Qantas frequent flyer points as well as one of the major supermarkets – Woolworths.
Another way to obtain free frequent flyer points was written in one of the previous post to this which is to sign up to a credit card which has the annual fee free for the first year and also provides you a sign-up points bonus such as 20,000 QFF if you spend $2000 on the credit card. Again you could be using cash and receive nothing back or use a credit card wisely and obtain points.
From time to time and airline or hotel may ask you to fill out an online survey about their product or services and also offer you a points bonus for completing the survey. An example of this is the IHG Hotel group that has Intercontinental and Crown Plaza as some of the brands in its’ portfolio.
Another example was Shangri-La Golden Circle promotion about a year ago provided you with either points or a cash voucher for downloading the app and completing 6 weekly games to receive this.
That’s why it pays to be on top of all the hotel and airline promotions. I’ve been doing it for years now and have been able to redeem so many experiences that I don’t think I would have done had I just used my own cash.
Free frequent flyer points is possible in many ways and avenues – it requires a bit of effort in knowing what is available, the different airlines and hotel groups that provide the most promotions and determination of a reward experience which may be considered “aspirational” such as flying business class on Singapore Airlines to the Maldives and spending 5 nights at Conrad Rangali Overwater Bungalow that which literally costs tens of thousands of dollars for a family of four – but can be achieved by points accumulation wisely.
